What Tactical Edge can offer your officers
Tactical Edge is a system that was created specifically for professionals needing effective defensive techniques that work effectively every time! Where most systems contain different movements & tactics for dealing with surprise attacks (startle/flinch adaptations for instance), deliberate responses (where attack is expected & the officer prepared), unarmed attacks, armed attacks, & the use of less than lethal defensive tools; Tactical Edge is a 'Conceptual System' that has a body of movement & techniques that deal with all of the above. The techniques employed by the officer in an unarmed mode are practically identical to what they would do if employing their ASP or similar.
Our training methodology is to employ drills that programme a simple yet effective set of initial responses that cover almost any attack, armed or unarmed, that come down the 'universal lines' (the lines that any attack must take). This initial response gives the officers brain time to 'catch up' & then move into simple but effective countermeasures that place the attacker in a safe position where they can be controlled. Our philosophy is to treat any attack as if there is a weapon involved initially, so our initial movements are designed to counter the ever present threat of edged weapons effectively.
For armed officers in specialist units Tactical Edge's unarmed defensive countermeasures can even be employed whilst holding a firearm, which can be potentially life-saving in the event of a stoppage in their weapon; & also allows them the option of quickly, safely & effectively subduing a suspect not posing an immediate threat requiring the discharge of a firearm.
An eclectic approach that benefits you
Our Chief Instructor & founder, Mark Davies, has an incredible amount of experience & a very wide range of training& knowledge in the martial arts & defensive tactics. He is still constantly training & absorbing new methods & training concepts. This eclectic approach allows him to ensure that Tactical Edge stays ahead of other methods of defensive tactics, many of which don't truly evolve & develop. We absorb useful methods when we come across them, but run them through the conceptual lens of Tactical Edge so they become even more effective & fit in with our range of methods. This keeps us truly cutting edge.
Tactical Edge methods & techniques
Some popular defensive tactics methods use techniques that simply 'stop' a physical strike, or at best 'stop' the strike whilst attempting to attack the face of the assailant. The downside of this approach is that it is sub-optimal if the assailant is armed, as the defence does nothing to remove the threat of the weapon; & even if the assailant is unarmed it does little to prevent a further onslaught. Our standard response is the use of a simple limb disruption, which is a far more sophisticated response but no more difficult to perform. By targeting the motor nerves an armed assailant will lose control of the weapon, & may well lose it altogether; whilst an unarmed assailants onslaught is broken due to 'cross extensive reflex action' allowing a safer bridge into further countermeasures. We use special drills to build this response into our students. We then teach effective combative methods to bridge into from our initial defences.
Our philosophy is that the threat should be dealt with as quickly as possible. We teach trainees simple but effective striking techniques that stun the assailant, allowing the defender to apply a fast take-down. All our take-downs position the assailant in a standard position, making it far easier under stress to effect a positive restraint. Our take-downs have been specially designed to minimise the chance of additional accidental injury to the subject.
Our methods all use Complex Motor Skills, which are at their height under the effects of properly controlled adrenal stress. Part of our programme deals with teaching about Adrenal Stress & its effects, & how we can use techniques such as Tactical Breathing to give the trainee the advantage.
Our unarmed countermeasures training mirrors our weapons training methods. This is a massive advantage, as it means that a single set of learned physical actions are needed for both unarmed defensive tactics & armed defensive tactics.
